About Mark A. Clementi, Ph.D.
Dr. Mark Clementi is an experienced public safety psychologist and licensed psychologist in the State of California. He meets all POST requirements for psychologists who conduct pre-employment psychological evaluations and psychological fitness for duty evaluations. Dr. Clementi has practiced psychology since 1990 and has devoted his practice exclusively to public safety since 1998. He is currently providing services to over 100 different police departments, sheriff’s departments, probation departments, fire departments, district attorneys, and social service agencies throughout California. He has conducted over nine thousand pre-employment psychological evaluations, in addition to numerous promotional evaluations, arming evaluations, and fitness for duty evaluations.
Dr. Clementi has 30 years of experience in diagnostic assessment and psychological evaluations. He is a former Kaiser Permanente psychologist, having provided services through Kaiser in the areas of mental health and chemical dependency treatment. He also gained extensive experience early in his career as the coordinator of a psychological treatment program for Vietnam veterans in Santa Rosa. Dr. Clementi is a former adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at John F. Kennedy University in Orinda, California.
As a public safety psychologist, Dr. Clementi takes pride in providing thorough and extensive psychological evaluations in a timely manner. He takes pride in providing a nonthreatening and professional office environment for public safety applicants. His professional office is located in the center of downtown Santa Rosa, overlooking Courthouse Square, a center of activity in Santa Rosa.
Dr. Clementi graduated from Humboldt State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology in 1977. He completed a Master’s Degree in psychology with honors from Sonoma State University in 1988. In 1991, he earned a Ph.D. in psychology with honors from the Florida State University. He earned licensure as a California psychologist in 1994. Dr. Clementi is a member of the Society of Police and Criminal Psychology and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
He has published a number of articles for the general public in local and international publications. He developed the Clementi Stress Scale in 1995. He is also the author of the Inside Game audio tape series and co-author of the Parachute Games book, with Brad Warren. He has made professional presentations at a number of local and regional conferences and seminars, and has done trainings for the Santa Rosa Police Academy and local law enforcement agencies.
Dr. Clementi has been conducting evaluations remotely since 2020, making it very easy for long-distance applicants to participate in pre-employment evaluations. He also conducts "second opinion" evaluations for applicants, as well as concealed weapons permit psychological evaluations.
Personal Interests
Dr. Clementi enjoys a number of leisure activities, including travel, fishing, motorcycling, golf, gardening, and music. However, he is particularly interested in youth sports and the welfare of children. He is an active sponsor through St. Jude Children’s Hospital and enjoys coaching youth baseball, soccer, and basketball teams in his free time. He lives in Sonoma County with his two teenage sons.
